Editor's Note

Contemplating about 'life and all living things' often leads to a creative awakening of totally unexpected proportions. My personal contemplation of this so-called 'life and all living things' led to the creation of the second issue of Meanwhile magazine. The awakening took place while passing through a small town in the Limpopo Province, landmarks like the Hotrod Track and local Hotel led my mind into alternative directions.

'Life and all living things' developed into the appreciation of unnoticed painted signs on local shop windows and walls. I personally find them inspiring and usually photograph them for future reference. On this specific moment the inspiration was triggered with the words 'Roedtan Hotel nou oop', written with white chalk on a painted brick wall. This personalised invitation had a larger impact on me than big bold expensive lettering on a skyscraper.

This is pure.

This is original.

THIS IS SMALL TOWN INSPIRATION.

Verse 1
It was a hot and sticky afternoon on the small town Hotrod track.
Building up to a climax, an aftertaste of smoking engines, dust and oil spills.
The 30% cyan sky gave way, the moment is more than that.
This is SMALL TOWN INSPIRATION.

Verse 2
The local Supermarket, a disposable camara, the fotoshoot of a lifetime.
What else lingers unnoticed, these are the moments smuthered at will.
More than just Free-time modelling.
This is SMALL TOWN INSPIRATION.

Verse 3
Sixty kilometres down the road, chalk lettering on cracked walls.
Looking in the green bottle, you might see what others find on a hill.
This is the sugar on your drumstick.
This is SMALL TOWN INSPIRATION.

Verse 4
I like it here, it is flat and you can see for miles.
The insect feeds the bird, the birds the blur, but the blur never fills.
Difficult not to feel like the visual pollution.
This is SMALL TOWN INSPIRATION.
This is SMALL TOWN ADDICTION.
This is SMALL TOWN ABSOLUTION.

Verse 5
Inspiration to me, expression to you, sanity to her.
The addiction grows to be a thousand dying millioner's wills.
Where else can you find the unexpected.
This is SMALL TOWN ADDICTION.
